
Chipped Beef on a Shingle
Ingredients
- 4 oz (115 g) dried beef, thinly sliced and chopped
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 2 cup milk
- 0.25 tsp black pepper (more if you're bold)
- Pinch of salt (optional)
- 4 slices bread, toasted
Steps
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add chopped dried beef and cook 1–2 minutes to warm it up.
- Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir for 1 minute to form a roux.
- Slowly whisk in milk until smooth.
- Cook 3–5 minutes until the gravy thickens, stirring occasionally.
- Season with plenty of black pepper and salt if needed.
- Divide toast among plates and spoon the beef gravy over the top.
- Serve immediately.
