
Classic Chicken Divan Casserole
Ingredients
- 3 cup cooked chicken, diced or shredded
- 3 cup broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1 cup milk
- 0.5 cup sour cream or Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 0.5 tsp garlic powder
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Swiss cheese
- 0.5 cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
- 1 tbsp melted butter (optional, for topping)
Steps
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Steam or microwave broccoli until just tender; set aside.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour and cook 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually whisk in chicken broth and milk until smooth and thickened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Remove from heat and whisk in sour cream, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Stir half of the cheese into the sauce until slightly melted.
- In a large bowl, combine chicken, broccoli, and sauce; mix gently.
- Pour into a greased baking dish.
- Sprinkle remaining cheese over the top. If using breadcrumbs, mix them with melted butter and sprinkle over the cheese.
- Bake 20–25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
