
Save-The-Bourbon Chicken
Ingredients
- 1.5 lb (680 g) boneless skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cubed
- 2 tbsp oil
- 0.25 cup soy sauce
- 0.25 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1-2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 0.5 tsp ground ginger (optional)
- 0.25 tsp black pepper
- 0.5 cup water
- 2 tsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker glaze)
- Optional: sesame seeds and sliced green onions for garnish
Steps
- Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add chicken and cook 5–7 minutes until browned all over.
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, ketchup, vinegar, garlic powder, ginger (if using), pepper, and water.
- Pour sauce mixture over the chicken and bring to a simmer.
- Reduce heat and cook 6–8 minutes until sauce thickens and chicken is cooked through.
- If you want a stickier glaze, stir cornstarch into 1 tbsp cold water and add to the skillet. Cook 1–2 more minutes until glossy.
- Serve hot over rice and sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.
