Ingredients

  • 6 cup day-old bread, cubed (French bread, challah, or brioche)
  • 2 cup milk or half-and-half
  • 3 large eggs
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 0.5 cup raisins or dried fruit (optional)
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted

Steps

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place bread cubes in a greased 8×8 baking dish.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt until smooth.
  4. Stir in raisins or dried fruit if using.
  5. Pour the custard evenly over the bread, pressing gently so it soaks up the liquid.
  6. Drizzle melted butter on top.
  7. Bake 40–45 minutes until the top is golden and a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. Let cool slightly before serving. Add ice cream or caramel sauce if you're feeling adventurous.
